Abstract

|
One hundred and fourteen patients with low back pain who were referred to the electrodiagnostic labratory were reviewed for their clinical & electrodiagnostic findings, and followings are the results.
1) The most common areas of pain are back, calf & leg, buttock.
2) Fibrillation and positive sharp waves were present in 87.7% of the cases for the paraspinalis muscles and 28.9% for the distal lower extremity muscles.
3) The most frequently involved lower extremity muscles were innervated mainly by L5 root.
4) Electrodiagnostic findings are more sensitive than the radiologic studies and correlated well with CT scan, myelogram & MRI.
5) There seemed to be no significant differences in electrodiagnostic findings according to the duration of symptoms.
